Deer in the Forest – Christmas Card

I had to hold off on sharing this card until Christmas Day, but now I can – and it is one of my favourites of the season. It was a bit of a last minute card because my Dad waited to tell me he needed a card to accompany his present for my Mom. And of course, since it was both for my Dad and my Mom, I wanted to make it special.

I started with some Strathmore Bristol cardstock and did a Distress Oxide ink blend of Tumbled Glass, Mermaid Lagoon and Chipped Sapphire. Then I used the Whimsy Stamps Forest Majesty die set to cut the birch trees from white cardstock, a few of the deer from brown cardstock, and the little cardinal birds from red cardstock.

I adhered the trees to the background first, and realized that I needed a snowbank base. So I used the Honey Bee Stamps Horizon Slimline Borders for a snowbank base. I placed that down and then my deer on top.

I used my Spectrum Noir alcohol markers to add a few light grey highlights to the birch tree bark. It really made the trees pop. Then I placed the deer and the little cardinal birds.

I cut a white frame to lay over the top of the scene, to finish the edge. And finally, I added a white embossed sentiment on a black sentiment strip using the My Favorite Things Bitty Holiday Wishes stamp set. It is a beautiful scene and I am really looking forward to playing with these die sets even more!
