This is the card that broke my Big Shot workhorse die cutting machine! While it turned out lovely, I can guarantee it will be a one of a kind because I will never use this die again!
So, let me tell you what happened. I purchased a cover plate die from a yard sale. It was so pretty and delicate, covered in snowflakes, but it didn’t have a company reference. I bought it anyway, and all my Google searches to find the manufacturer of the die came up empty.
When I tried to use it in my Big Shot, the results were sketchy at best. It wasn’t a great die cut, and I had to run it through a number of times with different combinations of shims and plates to get it to cut – and this was just through an 80lb cardstock – not even something thicker like glitter or cover weight.
While I finally got a piece I could work with, using scissors to finish the cutting process, I noticed that after making this card my Big Shot had a dead spot. Even simple frame dies wouldn’t work well. My husband, bless him, helped me take the whole machine apart. We cleaned out all the old paper bits, tightened up everything, made sure the tension was right, but alas, the die cutting never did return to the quality cuts from before.
Fortunately I had an old Cuttlebug back up, and a new Big Shot is on my Christmas wish list, but suffice it to say the snowflake cover plate die shall never again see a project.
