Polychromos Colouring

I never thought I would be one to use colour pencils on my cards, but if you’ve ever seen Yana Smakula, her beautiful work inspired me to try this medium. We also got a new little art supply store not far up the road, and they sell polychromos by the individual pencil. That makes it a much more affordable medium to try out before committing to a full-on set of pencils.

I started small, picking up an assortment of four green pencils and four pink pencils, as well as a white pencil. I knew this would allow me to get enough of a colour range to try it out and see if I liked it. I used the Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Flowers 2 stamp set, stamping it with Barely Beige ink on Kraft cardstock. Why oh why did I pick such a detailed stamp for my first try? But I soldiered on, colouring as best I could, shading and blending the pencils together.

Then, when all the colouring was done, I stamped the image again in Versamark and heat embossed the image in white detail embossing powder. It’s not perfect, it’s my first try at using polychromos, but I can definitely see me picking up more in the future. Maybe next time I’ll try something a little simpler!

I finished the card with a few Nuvo Crystal Drops in Gloss White and a black sentiment strip embossed in white.
