Sometimes it’s fun to take a step away from traditional and try something different for the Holidays. I’ve made a few cards in the past using non-traditional Holiday colours and I always enjoy how different they are from the rest of my creations. This year, I decided to make a very simple card but use a deep, rich purple in the background instead of red, green or blue.
I started with a 4 1/4″ by 5 1/5″ white card base. On top of that I adhered my purple cardstock, cut to 4 1/8″ by 5 1/4″. Finally, I cut a piece of white cardstock, 4″ by 5 1/8″. I ran that piece through my die cutting machine, once for each ornament. But instead of using only the die cut, I adhered the square piece I had just cut the dies from onto the card first. Then I inlaid the die cut back into the negative piece. It creates a fabulously flat card, perfect for mailing, but still looks great.
A die cut sentiment paired with a sentiment strip and some silver string and these cards were ready to go.
This would be a great card to mass produce, or do several variations of with different colours and different die options, so check out what cardstock and dies you might have in your stash and give this a try.
