The idea of colouring on coloured cardstock never occurred to me until I saw the some of the fabulous work of Yana Smakula. Her floral cards are absolutely stunning! So one day I fired up a movie on Netflix and decided to sit down and spend some quality time colouring.
I stamped the Pretty Peonies Background stamp from Simon Says Stamp on some gray cardstock using Versamark embossing ink. I left the stamp in my Tim Holtz Stamping Platform so I would be able to stamp it again in exactly the same spot to emboss, but this gave me the lines I would need to colour by. I used my Spectrum Noir alcohol markers in shades of blue and green and tried to follow along as best I could.
Once I completely coloured in the design, I stamped it again in Versamark Ink and this time I heat embossed the design in white detail embossing powder.
This was really just an experiment at this point – I wanted to see what colouring on the coloured cardstock would look like with my Spectrum Noir Markers. But in the end, I was pleased enough with the result to convert it into a card front.
Needless to say, the background was busy enough to cover a card front all on it’s own – so there was very little else to add. I cut a sentiment and shadow from my Silhouette Cameo and then added a simple sentiment strip. Finally I added a few Nuvo Crystal Drops in white. In retrospect, the Nuvo Drops were probably not necessary, considering how much is going on in the background, but I thought they were a nice add.
