So I was asked to make a little girl birthday card for the daughter of a friend. Not really knowing the recipient well, I opted for the obvious girly choices – pink, ballerina, glitter.
I started with the ballerina stamp, which is actually from the Graphic 45 Christmas set Nutcracker Sweet Collection 2. I stamped her using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then used my Spectrum Noir markers to colour her in. I wanted to add a little more sparkle, so I grabbed a silver Sakura Gelly Roll pen to use on some of the finer details of her outfit and headpiece.
Next up was choosing paper for the card. Well, I really ended up going back in the vault for this one. First, I chose a pink sheet music paper from the Making Memories Je t’adore paper line and a sheet of printed vellum from Hot off the Press. I wouldn’t be telling a lie if I said I bought that paper about 20 years ago!
I knew I wanted to build a shaker card, so I laid a layer of the pink sheet music down first, then used an extra thick layer of craft foam to build up my shaker. In retrospect, I probably could have gone with a thinner foam and it might have looked better, but, the thicker the foam the more glitter you can put in! I filled my shaker with a mix of mica flakes and glitter stars, both from Recollections. It’s so sparkly!
On the front of the card I used the same pink sheet music paper, but this time I put a layer of printed vellum on top to mute it a bit. Around the shaker window I but a stitched circle frame, and then placed my ballerina dancing off to the left. A few extra silver sequins and a little birthday banner and this card is done.
Honestly, I’ve played with the shaker on this card quite a bit and can’t guarantee this one will make it to it’s recipient!
